OKLAHOMA CITY – Katie Gracey drove in a career-high five RBIs to lead the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels to a 7-2 victory over the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lady Lions today (May 6) in their final game of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament at Ann Lacy Stadium on the campus of Oklahoma City University.
Four of Gracey's five RBIs came on a grand slam that put the finishing touches on a five-run first inning.
Taryn Callender started the inning with an infield single and went to third on a double by Carson Osborne. After Marki Dethloff was intentionally walked with one out, Mykah Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to score Callender for the first run of the inning.
Gracey then hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith in the third that made it a 6-0 Lady Evangel lead.
After the Lady Lions got on the board with two runs in the sixth inning, Cassidy Hart singled home Callender in the bottom of the frame to finish off the scoring for the Lady Evangels (26-25).
The seven runs were more than enough run support for Morgan Wardlow, who struck out five and allowed just the two runs in her seven innings in the circle.
Callender went three-of-four at the plate for MACU and Tiphani Napier had two hits on the day.
Kaitlyn Canales had two hits for SAGU (6-47) and Bailey Balloun had an RBI double.
The season isn't over yet for the Lady Evangels, who now await their opponent and game time for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament next week.
