OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Evangels swept the Southwestern College Lady Builders by scores of 8-2 and 8-0 today (Feb. 23) at Jack Allen Field.
The Evangels jumped on the Lady Builders in the first inning of the opener, capitalizing big on three errors before an RBI double by Brittany Ward and run-scoring single from Megan Wilson finished a five-run frame.
Taryn Callender then capped the victory with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fifth.
Callender was 2-of-4 in the opener, with Jessica Johnson, Katie Gracey and Ward each scoring twice.
Morgan Wardlow got the win after allowing two runs, none earned and striking out eight with no walks in her seven innings.
The Evangels used a little small to take the lead in the second game, as leadoff singles by Gracey and Ward led to a bunt RBI hit from Jessica Johnson.
Ward was then chased home on an RBI groundout by Kortney Brown and Callender then made it 3-0 with a double that plated Johnson.
Taylor Fowble added to the lead with a two-run double in the third before a three-run fifth inning finished off the win for MACU.
Ward started the fifth with a walk and scored on a single from Callender. Mariah Treat then hit a two-run single that ended the game on the run rule.
Callender had two more hits in the nightcap for the Evangels (4-2), while Ward and Treat also recorded two hits.
The Evangels got a stout outing in the circle from Courtney Anderson. Anderson blanked the Lady Builders over five innings on only three hits.
MACU will next host Tabor College (Kan.) Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) at 1 pm.
