Wichita, Kan. -- In the Mid-America Christian University Softball Evangels' two games at the Friends University Tournament today (Mar. 4), senior outfielder Tiphani Napier went a perfect 8-of-8 at the plate with six RBIs.
Napier tied a school single-game record with a 5-of-5 performance and her six RBIs also came in an 11-9 loss to the Bethany College (Kan.) Swedes.
Napier's five hits equal Christian Reyes' output in 2011 and the six RBIs are only one shy of her own record that she has twice achieved.
Two of Napier' six RBIs came in a three-run seventh inning that brought the tying run to the plate with two outs.
But a flyout by Hanna Harris ended the game for the Swedes.
Taylor Fowble had a career-high four hits against Bethany, with Harris and Taryn Callender recording two hits apiece.
The Swedes got three RBIs each from Nicole Pendleton and Elizabeth Endsley.
In the second game, the Evangels (4-10) fell 19-4 to the York College Panthers.
The Evangels scored three in the third and one in the fourth to come within 5-3, but the Panthers used a six-run fourth inning and seven-run fifth frame to put it away.
Napier went 3-of-3 against York and Callender drove in two runs.
Lilianna Herrera and Jyllian Ahart both had four hits for the Panthers, with Emily Chavira recording four RBIs.
The Evangels will next play on Tuesday (Mar. 7) at Southwestern College (Kan.) starting at 1 pm.
