OKLAHOMA CITY - When a player makes program history ih her first collegiate start as a pitcher, it increases the liklihood of that player winning a weekly award, and for Mid-America Christian University's Larie Amos,
Amos was named the Sooner Athletic Conference's softball pitcher of the week after firing a no-hitter in her first collegiate start in the circle against Southwestern College (Kan.) last Monday. Amos is the Evangels' first SAC Pitcher of the Week honoree in 2018.
Amos, a 5-9 junior right hander from Oklahoma City, allowed only five base runners in the win, and she walked only one batter. She struck out four in the win, and in the bottom of the first inning, Amos drove in what proved to be the game winning run on a double-down the right field line as MACU won 2-0 to earn a split in the double-dip with the Moundbuilders. Amos' no-no is just the second no-hit performance by a MACU softball pitcher since they joined the NAIA in 2008, joining Jackie Hilterbran's perfect game against Rogers State University on April 24, 2012.
