OKLAHOMA CITY – In conjunction with the 2018 softball world series, the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has announced their 2018 All-America teams. After a record-setting season, Mid-America Christian University has three players included on those teams. The Lady Evangels also had one NCCAA Scholar-Athlete, which was announced at the same time as the All-America Teams, with senior Kortney Brown earning Scholar-Athlete status.
Regan Martin led the way for the Lady Evangels, as she earned a place on the All-America second team, while her teammates Ribbin Anderson and Hannah Salmon each claimed a spot on the third team. Martin was also named to the NCCAA World Series All-Tournament Team
Martin, a 5-4 freshman from Sheridan, Arkansas, led the Lady Evangels in pitching victories as a part of an outstanding rookie campaign in Oklahoma City. She posted a 14-9 record in the circle, and she had 15 complete games, including five shutouts, three no-hitters, and one perfect game. She threw 168 innings and struck out 115 batters, while allowing opponents a batting average of .239. At the World series, she threw 12 and one-third innings, allowing four earned runs in two tough losses for MACU.
Anderson, a 5-5 sophomore outfielder from Cushing, Oklahoma, set the table at the top of the Lady Evangels' lineup all season. She hit .376 and scored a team-leading 46 runs while setting a new MACU record with a perfect 25-for-25 campaign in stolen bases. She also ranked second on the team in hits with 65, including two doubles and an inside-the-park home run to her credit in 2018.
Salmon, a 5-6 sophomore catcher from Oklahoma City, set a new MACU record with 79 hits, and she finished just two points shy of the MACU single season mark for batting average which was set by Tiphani Napier in 2017. Salmon belted 14 doubles and a team-best three triples, and she also led the ballclub in RBIs with 48.
In addition to the All-America teams, the NCCAA Also announced its Scholar-Athletes for the 2018 season. In order to qualify for Scholar-Athlete status, a student athlete must be a member of their school's varsity team, they must be a junior or senior academically, and they must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or better. MACU's Kortney Brown met all those requirements, posting a 3.77 GPA as she ended her MACU career.
