OKLAHOMA CITY - Despite chilly temperatures, and with the sun shining brightly at Jack Allen Field, the Mid-America Christian University softball team resumed their Sooner Athletic Conference home slate on Tuesday afternoon. It took the MACU offense a while to heat up, but when the Evangels started going well, they put up a boat load of runs in a hurry.
MACU (6-2, 3-0 SAC) scored five runs in the last two innings of the first game against Bacone College (0-4, 0-4 SAC), and the Evangels continued the onslaught with 16 tallies in the first three innings of game two as MACU took the two games by scores of 7-1 and 16-0.
Ribbin Anderson and Hannah Salmon each tripled and scored runs in the bottom of the first inning, and Alanna Leisy added a double as MACU took an early 2-0 lead. The Evangels kept Bacone off the board defensively, and in the bottom of the fifth, MACU tallied three more runs.
The inning opened with an inside-the-park solo home run from Anderson, and later in the inning, Hanna Harris doubled home Salmon and Alexis Franks to push the MACU lead to 5-0. Amber O'Bryant doubled home Anderson in the sixth, and Salmon followed with her own RBI two bagger, as MACU took a 7-0 lead on their way to the 7-1 win.
MACU scored seven runs on 12 hits and made one error, and Bacone tallied one run on two hits without an error.
Regan Martin (3-1) allowed one hit, two walks, and no runs in six innings, and she struck out nine Warriors. Adrienne Phillips tossed the seventh frame, and she allowed one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout. Dakotha Battice (0-2) gave up seven earned runs on 12 hits in six innings in taking the loss.
Anderson and Salmon each finished one hit shy of the cycle. Anderson singled, doubled, and homered in the game, and she scored three runs. Salmon singled, doubled, and tripled in the game, and she scored twice and knocked in two.
The Evangels carried their momentum into game two, and right away, MACU took command. The Evangels scored nine runs in the bottom of the first, and they added five more runs in the second, and two more in the third.
That proved more than plenty, as MACU pitched a combined shutout in the game to take the win.
The Evangels pounded out 16 runs on 15 hits with two errors, and Bacone notched four hits and made five errors.
Larie Amos (1-0) allowed two hits and struck out three in three innings. Hannah Smiley (0-2) was tagged for all 16 runs - though only five were earned - on 15 hits in four innings of work.
Salmon was 3-for-3 in the game with another triple, a run scored and three RBIs. Leisy singled twice and scored two runs, Alexis Franks was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored, and three RBIs, and Brook Hendrickson singled twice, scored twice, and drove in three runs. Taylor Bankston (1) blasted a home run in her only plate appearance of the game, Michelle Brazil doubled and scored, and Shayla Morris tripled, scored a run, and drove in another.
MACU will be back in action on Thursday when they hit the road to take on Langston University (5-6, 2-2 SAC). The games are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
