WAXAHACHIE, Texas - Rain delayed the start of the 2019 NCCAA regional softball championship game for more than six hours on Wednesday afternoon, and it also forced the game to be moved to a turf field. When the game did get underway, though, the Mid-America Christian University bats were unable to get going, and the Evangels saw their season come to an end.
MACU (32-19) did not get a base runner until the bottom of the seventh inning, and Southwestern Assemblies of God University (30-26) put up a trio of runs early and rode the arm of Casey Waterman to the 4-0 win.
Waterman retired the first 19 Evangels she faced, before Amber O'Bryant doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh frame. Waterman (23-15) earned her fourth shutout in her last five appearances, allowing just the one hit and striking out three. Regan Martin (16-8) took the loss, as she gave up four earned runs on seven hits in six innings with one walk and one strikeout.
SAGU scored all four of their runs in the game with two outs, including three tallies in the top of the first.
O'Bryant's double was the only Evangels' only hit, and she was MACU's only base runner in the game.
The loss ends the season for MACU, which was their fourth 30-win season in the last six years.
