OKLAHOMA CITY – After leading the Mid-America Christian softball team to a pair of doubleheader sweeps over Sterling and Southwestern (Kan.) last week, senior catcher and outfielder Hannah Salmon was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Salmon was phenomenal from the plate, batting .818 with nine RBIs and four runs to go with three steals combined in the four contests.
In the opening doubleheader against the Warriors, the Oklahoma City native put together a career-game, slashing 3-for-3 with a career-best five RBIs and three stolen bases to go with a pair of runs. Salmon's stellar day carried over into the second game of the doubleheader, driving in two more by going 3-for-4.
In the opening game against Southwestern on Friday, Salmon notched her fourth straight game with at least two RBIs, going 1-for-2 with a two-RBI single to left in the first inning while adding a run scored. While her RBI streak was snapped in the finale against the Moundbuilders, the catcher was still able to bat 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run to improve her season batting average to .647 so far through six games.
Salmon will look to keep her blazing hot bat going in a non-conference doubleheader matchup with Oklahoma Wesleyan. The first game of the twin bill slated for 1 p.m. at Jack Allen Field.
