MACU Softball Inks Eight To 2020 Signing Class

OKLAHOMA CITY – As the new school year gets underway, the Mid-America Christian softball team has officially announced its signing class for the upcoming 2021 season.

The Evangels will be adding one transfer and seven high school standouts to a program that has produced six winning seasons in the last seven years, which include a pair of trips to the NCCAA World Series in 2016 and 2018.

"We have a good young group of freshmen this year coming in," said MACU Head Softball Coach Robert Wakefield. "They are very talented and come from good high school programs. With this class, we have filled many holes in our roster after graduating eight seniors this spring."

One of the top pitching prospects for the Evangels, Rachel Eggleston will be competing in her first season at MACU after a stellar career at Kiowa High School. Eggleston led the Cowgirls to back-to-back state championships in 2018 and 2019 on-top of pushing the slow-pitch squad to a 2019 state title. Eggleston earned All-State accolades in 2018 after going 23-0 in the circle, striking out 128 batters and walking just 37 over 137 innings of work. Eggleston was also an Academic All-State honoree.

The Evangels also added some key catching depth with the addition of Hannah Robbins. Competing for Lexington High School in Oklahoma City, Robbins was an All-Conference, All-Region and All-State honoree on the field. In the classroom, Robbins was the Valedictorian of her 2020 graduating class and was selected as a member of the National Honor Society and the Oklahoma Honor Society.

Another player the Evangels signed who is no stranger to postseason play is Allene Dennis. The outfielder was a key piece of the Owasso High School team that won four straight region and district championships, which included a state runner-up in 2019.

After graduating All-American catcher Hannah Salmon, MACU added one more strong catcher to its 2021 class with Aurelia Holguin. A four-sport athlete at Marlow High School, Holguin was an All-Area and All-Region honoree while academically being selected to the National Honor Society.

The Evangels also inked some outfielding depth with Haley Lindsey. A graduate of Elmore City-Pernell High School, Lindsey was an All-Conference outfielder in every season with the Badgers as well as an Academic All-Region honoree in 2019. The four-sport athlete also helped lead her competitive cheer team to a regional championship last year.

MACU continued to get stronger in the circle by signing Avery Schneringer for the 2021 campaign. The All-District pitcher helped lead Blanchard High School to regional runner-ups in 2017 and 2019.

The lone transfer for the Evangels in the 2021 class is Lauren Waddell. Attending Western Oklahoma State College last year, Waddell was a first baseman that played her high school ball at Guthrie High School, where she graduated from her 2018 class as the Valedictorian and a member of the National Honor Society.

Rounding out MACU's signing class is an outfielder in Kyla Thompson. The Elementary Education major is electing to stay local after competing for Yukon High School and will be looking to polish her skills on the field and in the classroom.
