Baseball Celebrates Senior Day, Takes Game In Series Against Southwestern Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian baseball team managed to slug out a 17-6 win over one of the top teams in the Sooner Athletic Conference in Southwestern Christian on Thursday before celebrating Senior Day at the MACU Baseball Field on Friday afternoon.

  • Southwestern Christian recorded its 15 runs on 15 hits and committed one error while the Evangels notched their eight runs on 10 hits and made two errors in the field
  • Yan Ely Adames had a strong start to the series, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs while smashing his 10th homer of the season. Adames is the 10th player since the program joined the NAIA in 2008 to record 10 home runs in a single season.
  • Grant Roberts snapped out of a major batting slump by smashing a two-run homer to center in the sixth inning. Before that blast, Roberts went 0-for-23 in his previous at-bats.
  • Frensly Leito took a tough loss in his second start, allowing four runs, one earned on three hits, four walks to go with three strikeouts.

  • Yan Ely Adames finished just an RBI shy of his own NAIA era record, notching seven total for the contest on a homer and three doubles. Adames holds two of the top three single game RBI totals, sitting even with Scott Mulhearn, who drove in seven against Ozark Christian on Apr. 27, 2010. The trio of two-baggers also made a mark in the program's NAIA era record book, tying Jeff Eubank's mark set against Lubbock Christian on May 4, 2011.
  • The 17 runs scored by the Evangels tied their season high in a Sooner Athletic Conference game, matching the output with their 17-12 win against Central Christian on Apr. 10.
  • Cameron Brown picked up his second win in relief, allowing four runs, three of which earned on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Brad White tossed 3.2 innings in his start, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts before being taken out in the fourth inning due to an arm injury.

  • Before the start of the contest, Mid-America Christian honored its six graduating seniors: Edgar Martinez, Jairo Aparicio, Julian Fernandez, Yan Ely Adames, Arcangel Soto and Bernardo Moreno.
  • It was just the fourth time the Evangels were shutout in a game this season and the second in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
  • Arcangel Soto pitched well in his Senior Day start despite suffering a loss, allowing just two earned runs on six hits with no walks and one strikeout.

  • Mid-America Christian will prepare for Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament play as the event will be held at Oklahoma City University and Science & Arts from May 7-10. The Evangels are currently awaiting to see what their seed will be and where they will compete during the opening rounds.
