Baseball Upsets Southwestern Christian To Open SAC Tournament

CHICKASHA, Okla. – After falling to Southwestern Christian 10-0 in its regular season finale, the Mid-America Christian baseball team avenged the loss in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Bill Smith Ballpark on Friday afternoon, topping the Eagles 10-0 in eight innings.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 10 runs on 13 hits while Southwestern Christian turned in no runs on three hits with two errors.
  • The Evangels slugged three homers on the afternoon, tying the second-most they've hit in a single game this season, matching the three they hit in a 17-12 win over Central Christian on Apr. 10.
  • Frensly Leito tossed MACU's fifth complete game shutout of the season, setting the program's NAIA era record for the most by a team in one season. Leito improved to 3-2 on the mound this season with the win.
  • Joe Balak led the MACU bats by going 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, three RBIs and a run. Balak's 34 RBIs this season ranks second on the team and with both him and Edgar Martinez slugging a homer, each sit second on the team with four homers on the year.

  • If the Evangels lose, they'll have a chance to advance to Sunday with a win in the 6 p.m. game against Southwestern Christian. If the Evangels win, they'd play the winner of the Drovers and Eagles in the 6 p.m. contest.
