Softball Places Seven Standouts on All-Sooner Athletic Conference Team

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference announced its 2022 All-SAC Softball Teams on Tuesday as Mid-America Christian earned seven All-SAC nods.

Redshirt junior pitcher Rachel Eggleston and senior catcher Camenda Osborn earned First Team accolades, junior shortstop Mikaylee Allen, junior outfielder Rachel Humburg, junior third baseman Janessa Larman and sophomore pitcher Avery Schneringer garnered Second Team honors and junior outfielder Kassie Martin notched a Gold Glove Team honor.

In her first season as a starter, Eggleston has put up stellar numbers. Not only did the Kiowa, Okla. product make history by tossing a complete-game in leading Mid-America Christian to its first victory over No. 2 Oklahoma City in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, but that win also moved Eggleston into a tie with Regan Martin and Amber Tinney for the third-most single-season wins by a pitcher in program history (16).

Eggleston is also quickly approaching the top five in the program's single-season strikeout record book. After striking out 113 batters so far on the season, the Kiowa, Okla. native needs just three more to tie Caitlyn Ulmer for the fifth-most since the program joined the NAIA in 2008. Eggleston also needs only 11 more to catch Tinney for the third-most in a season.

Through the first half of the season, few bats were as electric as Osborn's. The Ponca City, Okla. native was batting .377 (20-53) with five doubles, a homer, nine RBIs and 13 runs scored before suffering a season-ending thumb and wrist injury against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Mar. 20.

Earning Second Team honors, Humburg made a remarkable jump in her hitting production from the 2021 to 2022 season. The Oologah, Okla. product this season is batting .322 and has driven in 28 while scoring 25 runs. Her 18 doubles not only leads the Sooner Athletic Conference, but she is also just three doubles away from tying teammate Kassie Martin for the program's single-season record.

Bringing home her first All-SAC honor, Allen is the leading hitter for the Evangels in the 2022 season. Overall, Allen enters the week with a .346 batting average (53-of-153) and has hit seven doubles, four triples, two home runs and has driven in 31 and scored 42 runs to go with 40 stolen bases.

Allen's 40 stolen bags ranks as the fifth-most in the SAC this season while her 42 runs is the 12th-best clip of any player in the league.

In her first season with the Evangels, few have made as much impact as Larman. The NCAA Division II Cameron transfer has been the best power bat in the MACU lineup, swatting a team-best six home runs and has ripped 10 doubles for a .507 slugging percentage and has hit the second-most RBIs on the squad with 32 to go with 15 runs scored.

Rounding out the Second Team honorees, Schneringer has put together a strong season in her first year as a starter at pitcher. So far on the season, the native of Blanchard, Okla. has put together a 14-10 record in the circle with a 3.57 ERA. In 30 appearances and 27 starts, Schneringer has walked 41 and struck out 66 while limiting opponents to a .286 batting average over 141 innings of work.

Martin took home a Gold Glove Team accolade after defensively recording a .964 fielding percentage, tallying 75 putouts, six assists and only three errors in 84 chances.

Mid-America Christian completed Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament play with a 32-22 overall record and were just one win away from advancing to the SAC Tournament championship game.

The Evangels are currently preparing to try and defend their NCCAA National Championship as MACU will be competing at the NCCAA Softball World Series being played at the Kansas City Royals Youth Academy in Kansas City, Mo. from May 17-19.
