Women’s Soccer to Play Oklahoma Panhandle State in Senior Night Match

OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off a big time tie at No. 10 John Brown (Ark.) on Saturday night, the MACU women's soccer team will be seeking a strong result in its regular season home finale as the Evangels host Oklahoma Panhandle State for Senior Night at the Dill Soccer Field for a 5 p.m. kickoff on Monday night.

  • Team Notes:
    • On Saturday, Mid-America Christian was up to the task in snapping its 12-match losing streak to NAIA powerhouse No. 10 John Brown as the Evangels shutout the high-octane Golden Eagles offense for the first time this season to force a 0-0 draw at Alumni Field.
    • It was the first time MACU had ever forced a draw in its all-time series against John Brown while the Evangels are the first opponent the Golden Eagles were not able to defeat in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
    • Senior goalkeeper Rachel Torres played perhaps the biggest match of her career, making a career-best seven saves while pitching her fourth complete-game shutout and her seventh total shutout of the season to improve to 11-0-2 in-goal. The LaPorte, Texas product is boasting the SAC's third-best goals allowed average (0.87) as well as the fourth-highest save percentage (.766).
    • The draw was a vital one for MACU because it allowed the Evangels to remain within striking distance of one of the top four seeds in the SAC Tournament with their 4-1-2 (14 points) league mark. MACU currently sits just a point back of Science & Arts and Southwestern Assemblies of God in a tie for third (5-2) and four points back of Oklahoma City in second (6-1) while the Stars have meetings with the Evangels and Lady Lions this week to wrap-up conference play.
    • At the conclusion of the match, MACU will honor its 10 graduating seniors, Makayla Farquharson, Rachel Torres, Bruna Faleiro, Kadin Stinson, Francesca Martella, Daniela Paez, Annika Gerdau, Michaela Seahorn and Silvia Cinque.

  • Team Notes:
    • The only team entering the week without a win or a draw entering the last week of Sooner Athletic Conference play (0-7), Oklahoma Panhandle State is coming off a 3-0 loss at Southwestern Christian on Saturday.
    • The Aggies enter Monday's match as the SAC's second-worst scoring offense, averaging just 1.15 goals per game while also conceding the second-most goals per match at 3.02.
    • The trio of Briana Alvarez, Lindsay Church and Nila Munoz have netted 10 of OPSU's 15 goals this season with Alvarez netting a team-best four and also posting a team-best nine points. The defensive efforts will by led by senior goalkeeper Mya Szymanski, who ranks second in the SAC in saves with 73 on a .670 save percentage, but is also conceding 3.03 goals per match.
    • Since OPSU started its soccer programs in 2019, Mid-America Christian has thoroughly dominated the series, outscoring the Aggies 38-3 while going 5-0 in the first five meetings. However, the last time the two teams met in Goodwell last season was the closest of the contests as the Evangels were able to grind out a 2-0 win on Oct. 28, 2022 behind a pair of early goals from Annika Gerdau and Jasmine Morales.
