Women’s Soccer to Tackle Texas Wesleyan Under the Lights

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU women's soccer team will be under the lights at the Dill Soccer Field on Saturday night as the Evangels take on Texas Wesleyan for a 6:30 p.m. showdown.

    • On a blustery day at Cagle Family Field on Tuesday, Mid-America Christian narrowly avoided suffering its first loss ever to Southwestern Christian as the Evangels netted the game-tying goal with 36 seconds left to propel MACU to a 1-1 draw with the Eagles.
    • The goal netted by Annika Gerdau on a pinpoint shot that crossed the left side of the six-yard box to ping off the right post and in was Gerdau's second goal of the season, boosting her season point total to eight on the year.
    • While the Evangels thoroughly dominated the possession, outshooting SCU 23-4, MACU struggled to put shots on-target in the windy conditions with just a 6-3 edge in shots on-goal.
    • Mid-America Christian will be needing a win to stay in lock step with the SAC leaders John Brown, Southwestern Assemblies of God and Oklahoma City, who currently enter the weekend with nine points each on a 3-0 league record.

    • After suffering a 6-2 defeat to Oklahoma City and a 2-1 loss to Southwestern Assemblies of God to open Sooner Athletic Conference play, Texas Wesleyan was able to notch its first SAC win of the season with a 6-3 victory at Central Christian on Tuesday.
    • Entering Saturday's match, Texas Wesleyan is boasting the fourth-best scoring offense in the SAC at 2.80 goals per game, but the Lady Rams are also struggling on the defensive end, allowing the third-most goals at 2.72 goals per contest.
    • A bulk load of the Lady Rams offense will run through Gracie Spradley, Alexa Bezpalko and Cat Jasso, who have combined to net 20 of TWU's 28 goals this season. Spradley leads the team with nine goals and 22 points, which third in the SAC in each category.
    • On the defensive side, the Lady Rams have split time in-goal between freshman Milan Carroll and junior Reese Blanton with Carroll seeing most of the action. Carroll has recorded the third-most saves in the league at 45 with a .763 save percentage while conceding 2.06 goals per game.
    • Mid-America Christian has fared well in the recent series between the two squads as MACU will be seeking its fifth straight win against the Lady Rams. The last three results have all been 2-1 decisions as Kealy Juarez and Annika Gerdau each netted a goal apiece in the first half in MACU's last win at TexWes on Oct. 8, 2022.
