Softball Blasts Southwestern in 8-0, 12-5 Doubleheader Sweep

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU softball bounced back in a big way on Wednesday afternoon as the Evangels got the bats going in an 8-0, 12-5 doubleheader sweep over Southwestern (Kan.) at Allen Field.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its eight runs on nine hits while Southwestern tallied just one hit and committed a pair of errors. As a team, the Evangels batted .333 (9-of-27) while the Moundbuilders were held to just a .052 (1-of-19) batting average.
  • For the second straight time in the circle, Rachel Eggleston went the distance, allowing just one hit with no walks and struck out eight over six innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the season.
  • Aurelia Holguin continued to swing an electric bat for MACU to start the season, going 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs to go with a run scored.
  • Olivia Roberts also tallied a pair of runs driven in after going 1-for-3 with a 2-RBI double.
  • Mikaylee Allen caused several problems on the basepaths for SWC, reaching base three times on a pair of singles and a walk while notching two steals and a pair of runs scored.
  • After scoring just one run through the first two innings, the Evangels found their rhythm from the plate over the final four frames as the Evangels pushed across seven runs on eight hits over that stretch.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • The Evangels pushed across their 12 runs on seven hits and made one miscue while the Moundbuilders tallied five runs on five hits while committing a pair of errors. As a team, MACU batted .280 (7-of-25) while SWC slashed .200 (5-of-25).
  • Despite getting a pair of laboring appearances from Avery Schneringer in the start and Harley Beesley in relief, Rachel Eggleston notched her first save of the season as she came in to toss three scoreless innings, once again allowing only one hit with no walks while striking out three.
  • MACU got some balanced production from the bats as Mikaylee Allen, Macy Stockton, Rachel Humburg and Olivia Roberts each drove in a pair of runs. The hits were also spread across seven batters while all 12 MACU runs were spread across 12 different players as well.
  • Humburg found herself on-base often as she notched another double with a pair of walks and a run scored.
  • Overall, the Evangels were bandits on the basepaths as the team tallied a total of 10 stolen bases, marking the second-most steals MACU executed in a single-game in program history. The only game Mid-America Christian recorded more was 11 in a 12-0 victory over Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) on Mar. 25, 2017.
  • By getting the win, MACU improved to 20-6 against the Moundbuilders since joining the NAIA in 2008 and have won 11 of the last 13 meetings since 2018.

  • Mid-America Christian will return to action on Friday as the Evangels will face Missouri Baptist in an uptown battle. MACU will face the Spartans at Ann Lacy Stadium on the campus of Oklahoma City University for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
