Softball Faces Langston in First SAC Road Games of Season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off a strong showing against Oklahoma Panhandle State over the weekend, the MACU softball team will be looking to keep the momentum going into its first SAC road doubleheader of the season as the Evangels will face off against Langston in a doubleheader at T.G. Green Park starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian was able to work its way back to .500 in Sooner Athletic Conference play after going 3-1 against Oklahoma Panhandle State over the weekend. Rachel Eggleston twirled a gem for a 1-0 win in the series-opener before the Evangels were able to get the bats going in a 7-1 win over the Aggies in the second game of the Friday doubleheader. The Evangels claimed the series with a dominant 9-2 victory in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader, but MACU missed out on a couple great chances to complete the series sweep as the Evangels fell 6-5 in extra innings in the finale.
    • Rachel Eggleston garnered the NCCAA Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after putting together a stellar week from the circle. The Kiowa, Okla. native went 2-0 with a 1.11 ERA as she allowed just two earned runs and walked just five batters while striking out 15 over 12.2 innings of work. Eggleston was especially sharp in the opener, tossing a one-hit complete-game shutout.
    • After coming into the series finale with an .077 batting average (2-for-26), sophomore second baseman Megan Widener had a breakout Saturday doubleheader against the Aggies, slashing 4-for-4 with three walks, two runs scored and an RBI to go with three stolen bases.
    • This week, senior first baseman Olivia Roberts will be chasing some big time career records with the MACU softball program. The four-year starter currently needs just two more RBIs to tie Hannah Salmon as MACU's all-time RBI leader and needs just one more double to surpass Hanna Harris for the third-most doubles in team history. Roberts is also just five hits away and three total bases from cracking into the career top five as well.

  • Players to Watch (Pitching):

      • 1-5 W-L, 10.16 ERA, 7 APP, 5 GS, 4 CG, 31.0 IP, 53 H, 42 R, 35 ER, 7 BB, 16 SO, .358 OBA
    • Jordan Wilson – SR - RHP
      • 2-0 W-L, 11.88 ERA, 6 APP, 3 GS, 2 CG, 16.2 IP, 39 H, 22 R, 22 ER, 7 BB, 8 SO, .453 OBA
  • Team Notes:
    • After opening the month of March with a big 7-3 win over Benedictine (Kan.) at the Red Dirt Classic on Mar. 3, the Lady Lions have hit a tough stretch by losing nine straight games by an average of 9.9 runs per game. The Lady Lions are coming off a doubleheader defeat at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Mar. 14, losing game one 9-1 before falling 16-8 in game two.
    • Langston enters the week as the fifth-best hitting team in the Sooner Athletic Conference, sitting a spot ahead of the Evangels with a .283 average as well as slugging the fifth-best percentage (.421). However, LU has struggled mightily from the pitching position, ranking dead last in the SAC with a 11.89 team ERA and have struck out just 45 batters, averaging only 2.5 strikeouts per game. The Lady Lions are also one of the worst defensive teams in the league, tallying the second-lowest fielding percentage in the SAC at .928.
    • Despite LU's struggles this season, the Lady Lions do feature a balanced offensive lineup with five players hitting for a .325 batting average or better, headlined by Gracelyn Rosales and Aubrea Hall, who are each batting .391 and .389 with eight runs scored apiece. Shadie Davis has been the team's top run producer with 11 RBIs.
    • The Lady Lions have platooned their pitching staff this season with four different starters tallying at least three starts. McKenzie Conner is the most experienced of the group, but the LU ace has also struggled, mustering just a 10.16 ERA.
    • While the Evangels hold a 19-8 lead in the all-time series, MACU has dominated the series since Langston became a full-time member of the SAC in 2018, winning 14 of the last 16 meetings. In last season's four-game series, MACU swept in dominating fashion, outscoring LU 43-12 with a 16-3 victory in the series finale on Apr. 10.
