Softball Wraps Up Non-Conference Play against Ecclesia

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU softball team will play its last regular season non-conference opponent of the season on Wednesday as the Evangels face Ecclesia (Ark.) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Allen Field.

    • After getting swept by Southwestern Christian on Friday, Mid-America Christian bounced back in a doubleheader against No. 9 Science & Arts on Saturday as the Evangels won a 1-0 thriller in nine innings before losing a 6-5 heartbreaker in eight innings in the finale.
    • Rachel Eggleston earned her first career SAC Pitcher of the Week honor after putting together a stellar week in the circle, posting a 2-1 record with a 0.96 ERA as she walked just three batters and struck out 22. Eggleston was especially great in the 1-0 win against the Drovers, allowing just one hit and no walks while tying a season-high nine strikeouts in nine innings of work.
    • Eggleston is the first MACU pitcher to earn the SAC Pitcher of the Week honor since Katie Long earned the accolade on Mar. 15, 2021. The Kiowa, Okla. native also received her sixth NCCAA Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week accolade of her career and her third this season, more than any other pitcher in the NCCAA this season.
    • With Megan Widener's walk-off squeeze bunt in the win over the Drovers, the game marked the Evangels' first extra-inning victory since defeating Hastings (Neb.) 1-0 at the Red Dirt Classic played at the USA Softball Hall of Fame on Mar. 3. The Evangels are 2-3 in extra-inning games this season.

    • Ecclesia is coming off being swept in a four-game series at home at Arkansas Baptist last weekend, falling 4-2, 14-1 on Friday and 13-1, 6-2 on Saturday.
    • The Royals hold an 0-4 record against Sooner Athletic Conference opponents this season as Southwestern Assemblies of God swept EC 17-1 and 9-1 on Feb. 4 while Southwestern Christian picked up a 10-1, 11-3 sweep on Mar. 11.
    • Ecclesia is hitting in the middle of the pack in the NCCAA with a .269 team batting average to rank 22nd and 21st on on-base percentage (.341) but sit 32nd in slugging percentage (.304). The Royals also rank near the bottom in team ERA, posting the 36th-best rate at 8.97 and are also posting the second-worst fielding percentage at 39th with a .897 clip.
    • Junior Madison Knox is both the team's best hitter and best pitcher, posting the ninth-best batting average in the NCCAA (at least 50 at-bats) at .456 with eight doubles and a team-best nine RBIs and 14 runs. Knox is also the only pitcher to record a win in the circle for the Royals, going 3-8 with a 5.98 ERA over 66.2 innings of work.
    • Mid-America Christian boasts a perfect 20-0 record over Ecclesia since the two programs started playing each other in 2013. In last season's doubleheader, Rachel Eggleston tossed her first career no-hitter in a 10-0 victory before the Evangels completed the sweep with a 9-1 win in game two at Allen Field on Mar. 16.
