OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history in head coach Jim Gasso's first year with the MACU Softball team, the Evangels are proud to announce that Pamela Richardson has joined the staff for 2025 campaign to serve as the squad's graduate assistant coach, primarily handling the outfield position.
"We're blessed to have Pamela as our new Graduate Assistant Coach," said Gasso. "I love how she interacts with the players, she's a go-getter and blue collar, which are the sort of personalities that I like to have on the team. She has the type of attitude where she gets the job done, no matter what the circumstance is and fits in very well with the team."
Richardson comes to MACU after a stellar four-year career at NCAA D-I Texas Southern. From 2021-24, the Galveston, Texas native saw action in 142 games and made 127 starts, wrapping up her career with a .277 batting average with 106 hits and 70 runs to go with 21 RBIs. She also notched 30 walks for a .330 on-base percentage.
"I'm beyond excited to be a part of Mid-America Christian University and have the opportunity to not only coach but also grow in my faith," Richardson stated. "This program is so much more than softball—it's about building strong character and a closer relationship with God. I'm incredibly grateful to work under Coach Jim Gasso, whose passion for fostering faith and leadership in his team is truly inspiring. I can't wait to learn, grow and contribute to such a meaningful program!"
Richardson is joining a program that is coming off its first ever appearance in the NAIA National Tournament after wrapping up the year with a 37-17 record while posting its most ever wins and tied its best Sooner Athletic Conference win percentage after going 27-9 (.750).
On-top of getting a pair of wins against one of the top programs in the NAIA in then No. 4 and preseason No. 2 Science & Arts, the Evangels earned their first ever NAIA Tournament victory against another NAIA Top 25 foe in No. 15 and preseason No. 16 College of Idaho by a score of 4-0 on May 14.
Mid-America Christian will officially get its 2025 season underway once again at the Southern Collegiate Sports NAIA Invitational in Mesquite, Texas as the Evangels will face off against Oklahoma Wesleyan at noon on Feb. 6 at the Mesquite Girls Softball Complex.
