Women’s Soccer to Joust Top-Seeded John Brown in SAC Semifinal

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 4 seed MACU Women's Soccer team advance to the Sooner Athletic Conference Semifinals to face the No. 1 seed and No. 11 team in the country John Brown, on Saturday evening for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Ark.

    • Mid-America Christian defeated Southwestern Christian 4-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference Quarterfinals, in a rematch of the Evangels only loss in the regular season. Brae Baker scored two goals in 18 seconds in the final few minutes of the opening half. Followed by Gladis Avalos, adding the third, 10 minutes into the second, Baker added the fourth and her third of the game six minutes later to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
    • Brae Baker leads the Evangels in scoring this season with 15, leading the SAC in goals and shots, while coming off consecutive hat tricks for the first time in five years for the program. Caitlin Hirst has continued to be an offensive force as well adding an assist in the Quarterfinal win, to bring her to 14 points in the last five games, five goals and four assists.
    • Liv Houlston continues to be the engine of the Evangel midfield by leading MACU with seven assists and adding five goals of her own for 17 total points.
    • Ariana Solorio enters the final match with a goalkeeping record of 7-2-3, making 54 saves on a .806 save percentage. Solorio finished with five saves in the win over the Eagles last time out.

    • John Brown won its Quarterfinal match at home against the No. 8 seed Wayland Baptist in dominating fashion by a 7-0 scoreline. The Golden Eagles scored five in the second half with six different goal scorers, and an own goal to advance to the Semifinals.
    • On the offensive side, junior forward Julia Lambert leads JBU in scoring with 12 goals to see her second in the SAC. She's also tallied seven assists, outdone by senior forward Aubrey Winter with a team-high eight assists, which is good for second in the conference, while adding eight goals of her own.  
    • The Golden Eagles are even stronger defensively behind sophomore goalkeeper Marely Fonseca allowing a conference low seven goals against, on a .837 save percentage. Fonseca recorded six shutouts during conference play, and three in the last four matches.
    • In the regular season match between the Evangels and Golden Eagles, MACU went into Siloam Springs and left with a massive 2-2 draw. JBU took the lead twice with a pair of first half goals from Tianna Jones, but the Evangels found two equalizers through Cailtin Hirst to steal a big point on the road. John Brown holds the all-time record against MACU at 17-2-2, but the Evangels haven't lost to the Golden Eagles in two years.
