Softball Preparing for Four-Game Set at Oklahoma Panhandle State

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Softball team will be hitting the road for the final time during the month of March this weekend as the Evangels are preparing for a four-game series at Oklahoma Panhandle State. Due to weather conditions out in the panhandle on Friday, the series has been moved to Saturday and Sunday with both doubleheaders slated for a noon start at Jim Quimby Field.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 9-9 (5-3 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won vs. No. 5 Oklahoma City – 3-1 – Mar. 15, 2025 – Allen Field
  • Stat Leaders (Hitting):
    • Kisbel Vizcaya – SR – INF
      • .431 BA (25-58), 8 2B, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 9 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 2 SB, .435 OB%, .672 SLG%
    • Stormy Haynes – JR – INF
      • .367 BA (11-30), 1 2B, 8 R, 8 BB, 4 SB, .500 OB%, .400 SLG%
    • Emylee Campbell – SR – UTL
      • .326 BA (15-46), 2 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 8 R, 2 BB, 2 HBP, .380 OB%, .565 SLG%
  • Stat Leaders (Pitching):
    • Chana Wolfe – JR – RHP
      • 4-3 W-L, 0.64 ERA, 7 APP, 6 GS, 5 CG, 3 SHO, 43.2 IP, 22 H, 10 R, 4 ER, 13 BB, 40 SO, .147 OBA
    • Isabel Ray – JR – RHP/INF
      • 3-0 W-L, 2.83 ERA, 4 APP, 4 GS, 2 CG, 1 SHO, 17.1 IP, 18 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 7 BB, 8 SO, .261 OBA
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian has run into some tough luck with its non-conference schedule as it had a doubleheader series against No. 9 Our Lady of the Lake canceled due to high winds and cold temperatures. Unfortunately, weather has impacted some of MACU's highest profile contests as four its NAIA Top 25 games have been canceled due to weather.
    • Even though MACU's ace Chana Wolfe allowed her first run in 22 innings in the series against No. 5 Oklahoma City, the Salina, Kansas native managed to hold a Stars offense that averaged 9.9 runs per game heading into the series to only four runs over 14 innings of work. Wolfe continues to be one of the top pitchers in the NAIA as she currently ranks fourth in the nation in ERA (0.64) and owns the fifth-best WHIP at 0.80 (minimum of 100 batters faced).
    • Since February 28, one of the big reasons for MACU's improved success from the plate is junior second baseman Stormy Haynes hitting out of the No. 2 hole in the Evangels lineup. In the last seven games where she has hit behind Kisbel Vizcaya in the lineup, Haynes is slashing 6-for-13 (.462) with seven walks and has scored six runs, including three in MACU's doubleheader sweep over No. 5 Oklahoma City on Saturday.
    • Overall, the Evangels' pitching as a staff has seen drastic improvement in Sooner Athletic Conference play as MACU is posting the third-best earned run average (2.48). MACU's staff has made marked improvement since the start of league play as the Evangels owned a 4.02 ERA as a staff during its 10 non-conference games through the end of February.

  • Team Notes:
    • Oklahoma Panhandle State has gotten off to a strong start to SAC Play as the Aggies opened league play with a 7-1 record after taking three-of-four at home against Texas Wesleyan on Mar. 6-7 before sweeping Langston on the road from Mar. 15-16.
    • Under first year head coach Jim Walker, OPSU has been putting together some of the best hitting numbers in the NAIA through its first 24 games, posting the NAIA's 12th-best batting average (.369) with the 22nd-highest on-base percentage (.422) and 22nd-best slugging percentage (.507). However, the Aggies rank in the middle of the pack of the SAC in the pitching department, owning the sixth-best ERA (3.85) in the SAC while have defensively struggled, ranking seventh in fielding percentage (.924).
    • OPSU's lineup features one of the best leadoff hitters in the conference in Trinity Higgins, who ranks third in the SAC in runs (31) and first in stolen bases (28) while Haeley Vasquez is one of the league's best run producers, ranking second in RBIs (35). In the circle, Marin Jacobs has worked a bulk load of the Aggies games this season as she has thrown 65 percent of the OPSU's innings at 88 while allowing just a 1.91 ERA.
    • Mid-America Christian will be seeking to stay hot against the Aggies as the Evangels have won seven of the last eight meetings over the last two seasons. The last time the two teams did battle, MACU came away with a pair of run-rule victories by scores of 8-0, 10-0 at Allen Field on Mar. 16, 2024.
