  • Team Notes:
    • After struggling to get the bats going early in the season, Mid-America Christian was able to get it going offensively in its two games at the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic, hosted by Langston at Devon Park on Friday. In their two games, the Evangels cruised to a pair of 9-0, 9-1 victories over Bethel (Kan.) and Haskell (Kan.).
    • In the win over Bethel, Chana Wolfe was once again nearly unhittable. After tossing a two-hit shutout the week prior against No. 7 Central Methodist, the junior ace tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout against Bethel as she also struck out six batters over five innings of work.
    • On the offensive side, junior infielder Stormy Haynes was on on-base machine as she combined to hit for a .800 (4-5) batting average and also drew a walk while tallying a pair of thefts and scored three runs in the series. Kisbel Vizcaya also continued her torrid doubles pace as the senior infielder batted for a .667 (4-6) with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and a two runs.
    • Sophomore catcher Kayten Herman also recorded her first career collegiate home run in the win over Haskell as her three-run shot to left gave MACU a 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the third in the victory.

  • Team Notes:
    • Much like MACU, Nelson is coming off a strong showing at the Red Dirt Classic last weekend as the Lions went 3-1 by picking up wins by 8-0 over Bethel, 9-4 over Haskell and 8-7 over McPherson before closing out the tournament with a 7-3 defeat to Oklahoma Wesleyan.
    • The Lions enter the weekend as the sixth-best hitting team in the SAC at .300 while posting the fifth-best on-base percentage (.384), but extra-base hits have been tough to come by as Nelson is slugging the second-worst percentage (.371).
    • Despite the offensive struggles, the Lions have been much better in the circle, entering the weekend with the third-best earned run average (3.63) and the third-best WHIP rating (1.51) while defensively notching fourth-best fielding percentage (.953).
    • On the offensive side, the Lions are led by one of the best leadoff batters in the conference in Sasha Jennings. The senior outfielder comes into the weekend with the fifth-best batting average in the SAC (.510) and ranks fourth in stolen bases (9).  Meanwhile in the circle, the Lions have a strong rotation of pitchers that are headlined by starters Natalie Zamora and Trinity Muhle while Valarie Guzman also provides a strong option out of the Lions pen.
    • It is the second-straight year that Mid-America Christian will be opening SAC play against Nelson as the two teams squared off a year ago at Allen Field. MACU won the tightly contested series three games to one with three of the contests being decided by a single run. The final game of the series ended in walk-off fashion when Emylee Campbell hit a sac fly to right field to score the speedy Hallie Wilson from third in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 3-2 victory on Feb. 24, 2024.
