OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Softball team will be hosting a home-away-from-home doubleheader at Southeast High School on Tuesday as the Evangels prepare to take on Central Christian in a twin bill slated for a 2 p.m. start.

  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian will be preparing to see its first action in 10 days as weather has continued to wreak havoc on the Evangels schedule. MACU had its four-game series against Texas Wesleyan from this past weekend re-scheduled to a split series doubleheader as the Evangels will host the Rams on Apr. 21 and Apr. 28 at Allen Field.
    • Since opening the season on Feb. 6, the Evangels have only been able to compete in 26 games over the last 60 days. As a result, MACU will have a jam-packed month of April as the Evangels will play 20 games over the next 20 days.
    • MACU will be seeking to get back on the winning track after coming off a tough home series against one of the nation's best teams in No. 3 Science & Arts to close out the month of March. The Evangels struggled to generate runs against one of the NAIA's best pitching staffs as MACU scored just seven runs in the four-game set. Mid-America Christian did put up a tough fight in the series finale against the Drovers back on Mar. 29, but ultimately fell by a score of 3-2.
    • Despite the team's offensive struggles in its last series, senior infielder Kisbel Vizcaya has continued to swing an electric bat, even against a Drovers staff that's sporting a three-time NAIA All-American in Sophie Williams. In that series, Vizcaya slashed 6-for-12 with a triple, an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Currently, Vizcaya ranks fourth in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a .464 batting average with the ninth-best slugging percentage (.690).
SCOUTING REPORT

  • Last Game vs MACU: MACU won 5-1 – Apr. 27, 2024 – McPherson, Kan.
  • Series Streak: MACU won 4
  • Players to Watch (Hitting):

      • .400 BA (20-50), 2 2B, 10 RBI, 7 R, 5 BB, .455 OB%, .440 SLG%
    • Camryn Frick – JR – INF
      • .395 BA (32-81), 2 2B, 5 RBI, 21 R, 2 BB, 4 HBP, 25 SB, .437 OB%, .420 SLG%
    • Chelsie Hirtler – JR – OF/P
      • .310 BA (22-71), 2 2B, 7 RBI, 12 R, 6 BB, 1 HBP, 3 SB, .372 OB%, .338 SLG%
  • Players to Watch (Pitching):
    • Madalyn Griffin – SR – RHP
      • 4-10 W-L, 5.88 ERA, 16 APP, 15 GS, 12 CG, 1 SHO, 85.2 IP, 128 H, 90 R, 72 ER, 31 BB, 46 SO, .342 OBA
    • Chelsie Hirtler – JR – RHP
      • 1-4 W-L, 9.20 ERA, 13 APP, 6 GS, 2 CG, 54.0 IP, 109 H, 96 R, 71 ER, 31 BB, 23 SO, .399 OBA
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian is not the only team that has had to deal with inclement weather as Central Christian had the second half of its four-game set at home against Wayland Baptist this past weekend cut short due to the weather. However, in the two games it was able to get in, the Tigers split the Thursday home doubleheader as CCCK got a 3-2 win in the opening game before suffering a 5-0 defeat in game two.
    • It has been tough sledding for the Tigers both from the plate and in the circle. CCCK enters tomorrow's twin bill with the second-worst batting average in the SAC in batting average at .284 to go with the second-lowest slugging percentage (.358) as well. In the circle, the Tigers are also allowing the second-worst earned run average (7.73) and the second-highest WHIP (2.28). The defense has not helped the Tigers' struggling staff much either as CCCK also ranks second-to-last in team fielding percentage (.923).
    • Mary De La Cruz and Camryn Frick have been CCCK's most effective hitters this season with the pair posting a respectable .400 and .395 batting averages, but no one else on the team with more than 50 plate appearances is posting better than a .327 average. In the circle, Madalyn Griffin and Chelsie Hirtler have done a bulk load of the work, combining for 139.2 innings of Central's 162 innings pitched.
    • Last season, Mid-America Christian's dominant pitching shut down Central Christian to sweep the four-game series in McPherson as the Evangels outscored the Tigers 23-4 in the set, wrapping up the series with a 5-1 win on Mar. 27, 2024. The Evangels have historically matched up very well against CCCK, winning 43 of the last 45 games dating back to 2007.
