Seven Softball Standouts Selected to All-Sooner Athletic Conference Team

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference announced its softball all-conference awards on Wednesday morning as the MACU Softball team had seven standouts selected to the esteemed list.

Overall, the Evangels had two players tabbed to the First Team as sophomore pitcher Gia Reynosa and senior infielder Kisbel Vizcaya earned the nod while junior pitcher Chana Wolfe, freshman catcher Madisson Chavez, senior infielder Stormy Haynes, and senior utility Emylee Campbell were selected to the Second Team.

On-top of a Second Team nod, Haynes was tabbed as a Gold Glove recipient while Makenzie Thurman received an Honorable Mention nod.

One of the most improved players on the team from her first year to her sophomore campaign, Reynosa put together an incredible finish to the regular season to finish SAC play with an 8-6 record and a 2.01 ERA over 17 appearances and 14 games started. In that stretch, the San Antonio native tossed six complete game and three shutouts over 90.2 innings of work, allowing just 35 runs, 26 earned on 83 hits and only seven walks to go with 56 strikeouts over 90.2 innings of work for a downright incredible 0.99 WHIP.

Reynosa was particularly impressive over her final seven appearances in the regular season as she allowed only one earned run on 28 hits, only five of which were for extra bases and issued just one walks while struck out 17 batters for an outstanding 17-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Currently putting together one of the best seasons from the plate in the entire history of MACU Softball, Vizcaya entered SAC postseason play with a .454 batting average, slashing 64-for-141 with a team-high 14 doubles, three triples, and two homers with 31 RBIs and 29 runs scored while posting a team-best 1.102 OPS.

Vizcaya's biggest hit of the season came in a 4-2 win over Montreat at the NAIASB Invitational on Feb. 23 when she hit the go-ahead grand slam in the top of the second to notch a career-high four RBIs in the win.

It is the second-straight year that Vizcaya is earning All-SAC First Team accolades after the San Juan de los Morros, Venezuela nativealso garnering top team acclaim in 2024.

For the second consecutive year, Wolfe is garnering All-SAC Second Team honors as she put up some career-best performances in 2025. The Salina, Kansas product wrapped up the regular season with a 9-6 record in the circle while posting a career-low 2.52 ERA. Over a team-high 91.2 innings of work, Wolfe tossed seven complete games and three shutouts while allowing only 46 runs, 33 earned, on 83 hits and issued 26 walks while striking out a team-high 79 batters.

Much like Reynosa toward the end of the season, Wolfe had an incredible start to the 2025 campaign as she didn't allow a single earned run in her first five games as she allowed just 12 hits and 12 walks while striking out 30 over 29.2 innings pitched. Within that stretch, Wolfe put together the best start of her MACU career when she allowed just two hits and a walk while tying a career-high nine strikeouts in a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over No. 7 Central Methodist (Mo.) in the NAIASB Invitational on Feb. 22.

In her first collegiate season, Chavez put together an excellent freshman campaign from behind the dish. Offensively, the Midland, Texas native hit for a .329 batting average, slashing 27-for-82 with three doubles, 10 RBIs and 12 runs. Defensively, Chavez was also strong, owning a .990 fielding percentage in 97 chances, committing only one error on the year as well as just two passed balls while catching six runners stealing bags.

A stalwart in the middle of MACU's infield, Haynes in her third season with the program put together by far and away her best year as an Evangel. The Blanchard, Oklahoma native closed out the regular season with a team-leading .475 on-base percentage as she batted 31-for-84 (.369) with 23 runs scored and also drew 17 walks while stealing 10 bases.

The Gold Glover was also a defensive stalwart for MACU in the middle infield. Starting the year at second base before playing the last half of the season at short, Haynes posted a very strong .975 fielding percentage, committing only three errors in 122 chances and helped turn three double plays. Haynes was particularly an outs machine in a 6-0 win over Texas Wesleyan on Apr. 21 as she recorded seven assists and two putouts in the win.

Rounding out the Second Team honorees, Campbell continued to be one of the most instrumental players on MACU's roster in her senior campaign. Over the course of the 2025 season, Campbell was one of the most productive bats, hitting .367 (44-for-120) with six doubles and a program record-setting nine triples and a homer for a team-high 32 RBIs and 29 runs. The Blanchard, Oklahoma product was also a bandit on the basepaths, finishing the season with a team-high 17 stolen bases in 18 attempts.

Campbell put together some legendary performances from the plate over the course of the season, including notching three RBIs in a historic 7-3 win over No. 5 Oklahoma City on Mar. 15. Campbell made history not just once, but on three different occasions, as she became just the second Evangel to record two triples in a single game in an 11-3 win over Central Christian on Apr. 8. Campbell accomplished the same feat on two other occasions, including a 6-2 win over Texas Wesleyan on Apr. 21 and a 9-1 win at Langston.

Being named an All-SAC Honorable Mention, Thurman wrapped her fourth regular season with the Evangels with a .232 batting average, going 22-for-95 with four doubles, a triple and a homer for 12 RBIs and 15 runs. The Walters, Oklahoma native got on-base often as she was hit by 14 pitches and drew three walks for a .342 on-base percentage. Thurman was also a strong defensive presence for MACU at first base as she recorded a .986 fielding percentage, committing only three errors in 209 chances.

After completing a strong regular season, the Evangels are now making preparations for their first NCCAA Regional Tournament in seven years. MACU will be competing in the four-team tournament hosted by Sterling College on May 12-13. The second-seeded Evangels will open the tournament with a noon contest.
